Chapman Technical Group, a division of GRW based in St. Albans, WV, had a ribbon cutting dedication in mid-September for the C Street Plaza, part of the multiphase St. Albans Streetscape Project.
C Street used to connect Main Street to Sixth Avenue, but following the conversion of Main Street to a pedestrian mall in the 1980s, C Street was closed to vehicular traffic and became a seldom used patch of lawn. The fifth phase of the streetscape project presented an opportunity to go beyond a typical streetscape project and a plan was conceived to develop the green space into a small plaza.
Chapman Technical Group provided design services for the new plaza.
The newly completed streetscape improvement project provides a place for people to gather during the day and can also serve as a stage for performances during special events or impromptu jam sessions just about any time of the day or night. Information panels installed on the stage area tell the history of St. Albans; moveable tables, and chairs allow for flexibility in seating.
WCHS TV was among the news organizations covering the event.
