GRW led the design team for the Federal Bureau of Prisons' first LEED Gold United States Penitentiary (USP). This men's high-security USP and minimum-security Federal Prison Camp (FPC) is located in Yazoo City, MS. The $182 million project has a gross building area of approximately 784,000 SF, and can house approximately 1,200 inmates. The USP campus plan places the six, 2-story housing units, a secure housing unit, and program and multipurpose functions in a rectangular campus layout enclosing a central secure compound. The FPC comprises a camp housing building and a camp core building.
In addition to the housing units, other campus buildings include food service, medical, warehouses/sanitation, administrative, recreation, education, personal services, industrial/vocational, central utilities plant, and vehicle maintenance.
